About this webinar
When colleagues regularly turn to you for help, it can be difficult to judge when to offer advice and when to give them more space to work things through. This session will help you use coaching skills in those everyday conversations, particularly when workload, confidence or competing priorities are involved.
We’ll explore how to agree what someone needs from a conversation, listen without preparing an answer and ask questions that help them consider their options. I’ll introduce Peter Hawkins’ CLEAR model as a practical guide you can return to when a discussion needs more structure.
Through a workplace example and a short practice exercise, you’ll consider how to support someone without automatically taking responsibility for their next step. We’ll also look at when the situation calls for clear guidance, a decision or more specialist support.
You’re welcome to bring a recurring conversation to work on privately during the session, so you can apply the approach to something relevant to your own role.
What you will learn
• Agree the purpose of a conversation and clarify whether the person needs coaching, advice or a decision from you.
• Use CLEAR to structure a discussion, from the opening agreement through to action and review.
• Practise open questions and active listening, including allowing someone time to think before you respond.
• Finish with a realistic next step, clear responsibility and an agreed point to review progress.
Who this session is for Anyone who regularly supports colleagues through workplace challenges. You do not need previous coaching experience. will leave with a structure for your next coaching conversation, a small set of questions to practise and a clearer understanding of where your responsibility begins and ends.
