As they say, teamwork makes the dream work, but only if you can guarantee and rely on a happy workforce, we’d like to add! At C&C Search we believe that a successful company is one that values their employees’ wellbeing, intended as a state of contentment that allows them to flourish with their mental, emotional and physical health.

Satisfied employees who feel that they’re genuinely being valued and looked-after also make for a loyal, committed workforce, and the link between their wellbeing, performance and productivity has been proven by many studies. Wondering how to promote wellbeing at work? All you need is some initiative and a mindset change in your company culture.

5 tips on how to promote wellbeing at work

Stimulate personal and career development

Job satisfaction is vital: you don’t want your employees to feel trapped in an uninspiring dead-end position. Not only is it important to make them feel valued: help them find their purpose and allow them to develop their full potential through coaching, adequate training, mentoring, activities aimed towards developing important traits such as resilience, and the possibility of promotions.

Encourage physical activities

Keeping active is extremely beneficial, especially if your employees spend most of their time sitting in front of a computer. You could partner with local gyms to offer discounted memberships, encourage participation in physical activities such as marathons and challenges for charity events, or organise regular group training sessions like we do at C&C Search. We promise that they’re great for team-bonding, too!

Promote emotional and mental wellbeing

Did you know that only 33 percent of UK employees would feel comfortable talking to their boss about having mental health issues? This should not be the case! While society still needs to dismantle the stigma around mental illness, you can be part of the change: start the conversation by normalising mental health at work, treating it like you would physical illness. Make sure that all employees are informed about your approach, so that they don’t feel scared to ask for help or time off when they need it. Small adjustments in the office, such as adding plants and welcoming natural light, have also been proven to boost employees’ mood and productivity.

Be inclusive and promote dialogue

Everyone needs to feel welcome within your company and their team, regardless of their background, political opinions, and religious beliefs. Help enhance their morale by introducing two-way communication rather than having everything dictated from the top: employees should feel welcome to make suggestions and express their concerns. Don’t forget to acknowledge when they do something particularly helpful, too: whilst it can be easy to point out mistakes, positive contributions shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Allow flexible working and respect work-life balance

Nobody wants to be micromanaged and feel that they’re not trusted by their own boss! At C&C Search we’re full supporters of flexible working, and would like to invite you to take our Flex Pledge. We believe that employees should be allowed to work from home when needed, and break free from the rigidity of a strict 9 to 5 (for example, by leaving earlier to pick up their kids from school). Also, help decrease work-related stress by respecting their time off and work-life balance: texting them at 10 pm on a Saturday when they work Monday to Friday? Nuh-uh!
