Celebrating Pride Month: Tackling Workplace Discrimination in Recruitment and Beyond

As we celebrate Pride Month this June, it's essential to reflect on the progress made toward LGBTQ+ inclusion and acknowledge the challenges that still persist, particularly in the workplace. At C&C Search, a leading recruitment company specialising in Executive Assistant (EA) and Personal Assistant (PA) roles, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, feels valued and respected.

The Reality of Workplace Discrimination

Despite significant advancements in LGBTQIA+ rights, many employees still face discrimination and harassment due to their sexual orientation. Some troubling statistics highlight this ongoing issue:

  • 75% of LGBTQIA+ founders withhold their identity from other investors in the ecosystem.

  • A 2019 study from LinkedIn and Black Pride discovered that LGBTQIA+ workers in the UK were paid £6,703 less than their heterosexual colleagues, representing a 16% shortfall.

  • 38% of Brits don’t believe it’s appropriate for their LGBTQIA+ colleagues to be out at work.

  • A report from the CIPD found that 40% of lesbian, gay, and bisexual employees had faced conflict and harassment in the workplace. This number rises to 55% for transgender employees.

These statistics underscore the urgent need for organisations to improve their handling of conflict and develop a deeper understanding of the specific experiences and needs of LGBTQIA+

employees.
